Arunachal draw blank at availing schemes for minorities

GUWAHAT, July 13: Even as the state government reminds the people of its commitment to overhaul the state, there are startling facts that suggest that impoverished Arunachal failed to take advantage of various schemes being implemented by the Centre. According to papers made available to the media, by Union Minister for Minority and Corporate Affairs Salman Khurshid in Guwahati, Arunachal Pradesh failed to avail schemes under the Ministry of Minority affairs even though the ministry allocated huge sum of funds against targets for the welfare of the minorities during 2008-11.

The ministry under the initiative of PM’s 15-point programme for the welfare of minorities since its inception has released Rs 3642.42 lakh by providing pre-matric, post-matric and merit-cum-means scholarships to 2,02,942 students including 1,00,804 students against a target of 3,75,659 till June last, but Arunachal did not avail any despite earmarked target.

According to the ministry’s document, Arunachal’s target for pre-matric was 1199 and 2877 in 2008-09 and 2009-10 while no target was fixed for the current year. In post-matric scholarship, the target was 142, 475, 580 and 773 for 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 respectively, while for the four years the merit-cum-means scholarship target was 38. It remains to be seen whether the state government would ensure that these scholarships are made available to the needy ones this time around.

Even the much talked multi-sectoral development programme (MSDP) is under threat as the state government is yet to submit the district plans of 7 minority concentration district (MCD) of Arunachal. Till June the ministry was yet to receive the plans of seven districts identified as MCD by the centre.

The MSDP is being implemented since 2008-09 with the Planning Commission allocating Rs 2750 crore in the 11th five year plan.

NEC to implement NERCORMP at Changlang and Tirap

GUWAHAT, July 13: The North Easter Council (NEC) has decided to implement the North Eastern Community Resource Management Project (NERCORMP) in Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The decision to spread it to Arunachal and other states came after the project which provide supplementary income to the families through the SHGs, was managed successfully in insurgency hit Ukhrul and Senapati districts of Manipur with the involvement of the local communalities.

Addressing the technical session of the 3rd All India Editors Conference here today, NEC secretary U K Sangma disclosed that the NERCORMP with the financial support of International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFDA) was introduced in Ukhrul and Senapati districts, North Cachar and Karbi Anglong districts of Assam and West Garo and West Khasi districts of Meghalaya.

Sangma said that insurgents had failed to collect any tax from these programme as all schemes are implemented by the communities themselves. Therefore, the Centre decided to expand the projects to all the districts infested with insurgency. He said the NEC since inception in 1972 is engaged in massive infrastructure development (8,000 km roads completed, 1,000 km road ongoing), PGCIL engaged in developing transmission line, DPR preparation for power projects in Arunachal, Sikkim and Meghalaya, human resource development through scholarships for higher education and teachers’ training, improving health services by financing Sankardeb Netralaya, BB Boruah Cancer Institute and RIMS, Imphal, among others.

Sangma disclosed that the Tata Consultancy Services has been engaged for preparing a tourism master plan for the North East region to project its vast potential as a single unit to the rest of the world.

DoNER joint secretary Dr J P Sharma while responding to a question on Soochna Bhawan at Itanagar, has said that if the state government has sent the proposal, the department would look into it.

Dr Sharma said though the ministry takes up planning, execution and monitoring of various schemes, but huge allocation (10% of each ministry allocated to the NE) remain unspent and diverted to the Non-lapsable central pool of resources (NLCPR) from which the Planning Commission allocates funds for projects prioritised by the respective state government.

He further informed that a total of 118 projects worth Rs 1,227 crore was approved for Arunachal and Rs 855 crore released from NLCPR and Rs 570 crore spent.

Arunachalee workers under MGNREGA lowest paid among Northeastern states

ITANAGAR, July 13: The wages paid to Arunacahlee workers under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREG) Scheme is the lowest among Northeastern states.

The truth came to light during the second day of the three days orientation cum awareness programme on MGNREGA for media persons, bar council and government lawyers at SIRD conference hall here today.

The wages being paid to the workers under MGNREGA in Arunachal Pradesh is Rs.90, the lowest among North eastern states. The minimum wage fixed for workers under the Act is Rs 100. Wage rates in other Northeastern states are, -- Assam- Rs 100, Nagaland - Rs130, Mizoram - Rs 103, Sikkim - Rs 120, Meghalaya- Rs 95, Tripura - Rs.100 and Manipur - Rs. 100. Wage rate in each state is fixed by their respective State governments.

The participants of the training programme, including the mediapersons, lawyers and resource persons, were unanimous in suggesting the state government to maintain the minimum wage rate of Rs 100.

Attending the training programme for a brief period, RD Joint Director T. Ado highlighted the overall performance and implementation record of the scheme in the state.

He said that the scheme could be implemented successfully in the state in the last 3-4 years due to various reasons. One of them, he said, was the inability to prepare the labour budget properly by the Programme Officers (POs). State’s performance record in the mentioned period was only 25 per cent, he said, adding that Upper Subansiri recorded cent percent performance when the Act was first implemented in the state.

Frequent transfer of the BDOs, who is the Programme Officers (POs), also hampering in successful implementation of the scheme, he said. Due to frequent transfer, that too without the knowledge of the Rural Development department, they can not dedicate enough time and energy for successful implementation of the scheme, he added.

Rakesh Srivastava, one of the resource persons, also echoed the joint director on the issue. He informed that chief minister Dorjee Khandu had also expressed serious concern over the poor performance of the scheme on several occasions.

While reminding Panchayat leaders of their role and duties, he said that each Gram Panchayat should conduct Gram Sabha on development plan, priority of work, to identify projects at GP level as per the recommendations of the Gram Sabha. Apart from that Gram Sabha should also monitor the execution of the works within their jurisdiction and conduct social audit twice in a year, he added. At least 50 per cent of the works in terms of cost of the works are allocated to the GPs for implementation. Even, 100 per cent works can also be allocated to the GPs, he said.

Later in the post lunch session, Narayan Sahoo, AD, PR SIRD highlighted through power-point presentation about Monitoring, Evaluation and Review process under MG-NREGA, the responsibilities of Gram Panchayat, Vigilance and Monitoring Committee, Anchal Samity and Programme officers, Zilla Parishad and District Programme Coordinators.

Governor reviews law and order in state,

calls for strengthening night patrolling in capital cities

ITANAGAR, July 13: In a meeting of the State Governor, General J.J Singh with the State DGP incharge Tashi Lama at Raj Bhawan here this evening, review of various law and order related issues of the state took place.

The meeting discussed the details of strengthening of the law and order of the state to create a congenial and peaceful atmosphere for the citizens.

Reviewing the law and order situation, the Governor was specific on strengthening of police patrolling and Nakas in vital sensitive points in the capital complex during night time to ensure the security of the common people. Expressing concern on the prevailing law and order situation during night posing a threat to the tourism sector, Gen Singh called upon the senior police officials to chalk out strict modalities to prevent all unlawful activities from taking place against innocent citizens including tourists and outsiders.

Giving out a firm message to the people, the Governor asserted that the law of the land will be upheld and all the culprits involved in the anti - social activities would be made to face the consequences of any undesirable acts.

Emphasizing on the need to promote tourism as a source of sustainable economy, he stressed on creating tourist- friendly environment in the state to facilitate growing of the tourism sector.

The Governor, while reviewing the situation in Tirap and Changlang, asked the Police Department to update their intelligence database and called for motivating the misguided youths to join the mainstream for their better future by rehabilitating them through the state surrender policy.

MTO conducts surprise inspection

ITANAGAR, July 13: A mobile team of officers (MTO) constituted by the Controller, Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs, conducted a surprise inspection at Akash Deep Complex and Ganga Market area, Itanagar today. During the inspection the team apprehended a number of trading units for committing irregularities in weights and measures, packaged commodities and for violation of the provisions of Weights & Measures Acts & Rules.

In most of the cases, the traders were found selling imported packaged items without mandatory declarations which is a necessity under the provisions of Packaged Commodities Rules, said an official release. Besides, maximum retail price (MRP) as declared on some of the packages was found smudged with intention to manipulate the printed prices and to earn undue profit. The team also test checked the declared weight of cement bags, as also the printed prices and found that Topcem brand of cement was being sold at Rs. 390/- as against the printed price of Rs. 360/- per bag. Accordingly, cases were registered against the offenders under provisions of the law, the release added.

Meanwhile, the Department appealed to the citizen to extend cooperation by lodging immediate complaint to the nearest Inspector of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs as and when any case of malpractice in their day to day transactions is faced.

East Siang police lauded

PASIGHAT, July 13: The East Siang police has recovered 18 stolen scooter/motorcycles during the last two months. Most of the two wheelers have been handed over to the owners and few are yet to return, police sources said.

According to sources, the East Siang police also solved three more theft cases within a short period of time in the district.

After receiving a complaint from Tamik Ringu, owner of a stolen Shaktiman Truck bearing Registration No. AR-09 / 7059, a police team led by Sub-Inspector O. Gao immediately swung into action and recovered the lost Truck from Dhemaji (Assam) and handed over to the complainant. In another complaint lodged by Ashini Kumar, In-charge Dett.- 1443 BCC GREAF C/o 99 APO (Mebo) the Sub-Inspector O. Daring (Mebo PS) recovered 34 Shuttering Iron Plates, mainly used for bridge constructions have been recovered and all the accused persons have been arrested.

The local Beeds, worth 5 lakhs of T. Paron, Principal Govt. Hr. Secondary School, Telam has also been recovered by the T. Tekwa SI and his team arresting two accused persons. The DC Onit Panyang congratulated the police for their prompt action which is a clear message to the criminals about the capability and sincerity of the local police.

The outgoing SSP East Siang, D. C. Srivastav also lauded the police for their commendable service.

Meanwhile the police department and general administration bade farewell to the outgoing SSP D.C. Srivastav IPS who proceeded to Itanagar on promotion as DIG. Aloke Kumar IPS (UT) 2001 batch, presently DCP of Special Cell under Delhi police will take over the charges of SP East Siang on July 14 next. DIPRO

ANYA calls off 3rd phase agitation, demands road renovation

ITANAGAR, July 13: The All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) has called off its proposed third phase agitation after being ‘satisfied’ with Govt elucidation on AOP issue. ANYA, however, added another five-point demand to its wish list.

The ‘development’ to this effect came following a ‘fruitful’ discussion that the ANYA leadership had with Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu at latter’s office premises here on July 11 last. The CM-ANYA meeting that lasted for about two hours was arranged under the initiation of Govt interlocutor Tame Phassang, the Advisor to CM.

ANYA president Tarin Nabam and general secretary Taring Mama today told a press conference that the CM enlightened them of Govt stand on non-preparation of AOP during the last financial year owing to state Govt employees’ movement. The ANYA leaders quoted the CM as saying, “Apart from the budgetary constraints, the Govt machineries which were supposed to prepare the annual operating plan (AOP) during 2009-10 were on agitation path spearheaded by CoSAAP. That’s why AOP could not be prepared on time.”

Regarding the ‘NIT issue’, ANYA said the matter has been doled out to the 14-member Nyishi Legislators’ Forum, headed by the PWD Minister Nabam Tuki, “to come to a decision on establishment of the proposed institute of national repute”.

Clarifying its ‘sudden shift’ in stand, ANYA president Tarin Nabam said, “If we persistently take up this NIT issue, then we, the Nyishis, will cease to be divided. Therefore, we decided to take it over to the Nyishi Legislators’ Forum to come up with a proper decision on it.”

On its fresh five-point memorandum, ANYA said it has demanded immediate renovation of NH-52A—the lifeline of Capital Complex—and the road from Ganga to Papu Nallah via Jully Basti and to develop it as two-lane highway and a substitute to the NH-52A in view of the problem of increased traffic movement along the national highway, currently in dilapidated condition.

While claiming that the CM has assured to fulfill its ‘genuine’ demands, the ANYA leadership averred that it will stick to its agitation path provided the state govt did not redress those at the earliest possible.

Give priority on sports in rural areas

The Union Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs deserves appreciation for launching the Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) with an objective to promote games and sports in grass root level especially the rural sport and creates basic sports infrastructure.

We, the PRI members of East Kameng district hope that the scheme would explored the latent talent of the state and would help them to make themselves upto national and international arena in the years to come in this district in general and Arunachal Pradesh as a whole.

We would thereby request the concern deptt. to implement the scheme with sincerity , dedication and maintain transparency.

At the same time, we also appeal each and every one especially the PRI members to cooperate with the concern officer/implementing agency to make the flagship progarmme a total success.

In the greater interest of the public, we would like to draw the kind attention of the state Govt (S&YA) towards the following points and request the govt. to take up the matter with the GOI for the consideration.

Firstly, we want enhancement of Kridashree Honorarium. It is understood that the role and function of a Kridashree will be like that of a coach/PTI or instructor who will have to impart training to the children at village level. but inspite of having so much work loads the honorarium is just Rs 500 PM, which too less in compare with the govt. deptt. in which the lowest considered wage is 2400/PM.

Thus we request the govt to pursue the central govt to enhance the honorarium from Rs 500 to Rs 2500/PM.

We would also like to aprise the govt. about the provision being mentioned in the guidelines of scheme for construction of play field at every village and block panchayat. i.e Rs 1.00 lakh and Rs. 5.00 lakh at each village/block Panchayat respectively, but it would not be sufficient to construct a new play field in the area's like ours where almost all the schools and area conducive for playfield are situated.

Thus Keeping in view, the hilly terrain topogrsphical condition of the state , the amount is also very less. We propose (a) Rs 3.00 lakh at village panchayat and (b) Rs. 8.00 lakh at block panchayat.

At last we request our ‘Peoples first’ govt. to take up the matter with Ministry of Sports and youth affairs, GoI for early consideration.

It’s time to react

Dear Editor,

It is human nature to strive for perfection. It holds true even when someone appoints himself or herself a self styled leader of some organisation. Organisations that are fungating all over Arunachal Pradesh at, an individual, domestic, clan, market, school, village, town and ummm state level, and with a grammatically wrong name. Organisations that find some reason or the other to demand, and threaten to impose a bandh if that 'unusual' demand is not fulfilled.

Organisations who walk in to news offices either to express their never ending displeasure or to threaten. Compounded to this is a bunch of wrongly elected 'leaders', who do not know the basics of governance. Its high time they take stock of the situation and do the needful.

Renovate damaged Itakhola-Seijosa road

Dear Editor,

It is known to all the public, intellectuals and officers of 12th Pakke-Kessang and Seijosa in particular that for making ST certificate and permanent residential certificate, one had to travel by covering 500 km from Seijosa to reach Seppa, besides taking lots of pains to stay at the district HQs which was not easy for the poor farmers to bear the expenses. Due to the initiative taken by the Minister of WRD & Civil Aviation Atum Welly, nowadays such documents are being issued under ADC Seijosa. Such kind of development initiatives by any leader deserve appreciation.

Now, I would like to appeal the Dorjee Khandu Govt including the minister to initiate action for renovation of the damaged road from Itakhola (Assam) to Seijosa, which is the lifeline of the people of Seijosa. The road in this sensitive border area has remained in the worst condition since past 15 years. Bad road condition affects the development of Seijosa area which has been witnessing increase in cases of extortion. The Govt may also consider for a road from Seijosa to Itanagar under PMGSY or any other scheme so that the peace-loving people of the area are relieved of such unnecessary harassments.

Uruguay won the World Cup twice, but that feat was achieved in much distant past. England and France won the World Cup only once. Thus, for decade after decade; in the name of World Cup, the premier football tournament was nothing but a show of 4 giants only --- Brazil, Italy, Germany and Argentina, which was certainly not a good advertisement of football. But the 2010 edition has thrown up a welcome variety with Spain emerging as the Champion after making its debut entry in the final and Holland emerging the runners-up, thus breaking the hegemony of few selected teams only.

Let's hope that in the coming editions, we will witness the likes of South Africa, Ghana, Japan, South Korea or Chile vying for ultimate honours in international football, thereby ensuring the relevance of World Cup.

Ignou conducts 1st practical based Workshop for B.Ed students

ITANAGAR, July 13: The 12-days First Practical based workshop for B.Ed trainees conducted by IGNOU Regional Centre, Naharlagun came to an end today.

Addressing the concluding function of the programme yesterday, Dr. S.J. Neethirajan Regional Director of IGNOU urged the trainees to become the ideal teachers and role models in their work places. He congratulated the trainees for their successful completion of the workshop and distributed the certificates. Altogether 75 trainees from all over the state had attended the 12 days workshop.

DC directs Govt. officials to stay in their posting places

SEPPA, July 13: Taking strong exception to the absentee officers, East Kameng Deputy Commissioner, Tope Bam today passed an order which directs the govt. officers to stay in their respective posting places else a stern action shall be initiated against erring officers.

The order said that most of the Govt. officers remain absent in the offices especially in the administrative outpost thereby soliciting the public wrath on account of their day to days service to the public being adversely affected. It also maintained that despite repeated directives from the DC, the officers are behaving themselves unbecoming of govt. servant.

The order further said that all the HoDs shall submit the attendance of the Govt. officers/ official every month to the DC for examination and further necessary action, the outpost officers shall refrain from having camp office at the district HQ, Seppa. The HODs /officers in-charge shall strictly check the attendance of their subordinate staffs and shall initiate appropriate action against the officers who remain willfully absence from their places of duty. The order also mention that if any subordinate officers found defying the orders of their controlling officer despite their best efforts, such cases shall be brought to the notice of the DC in writing for appropriate action. Tawang gets Kitpi circle HQ

TAWANG, July 13: With the unfurling of tri-colour flag in the Kitpi Circle Office by the Tawang MLA, Tsewang Dhondup on July 10 last, Tawang district got a new circle office formally.

The MLA in his speech announced the establishment and opening of a Fair Price Shop in Kitpi. He also announced improvement of irrigation facilities, landslide preventive measures and strengthening of drainage systems linking at least two-three villages.

Both the MLA and the Deputy Commissioner stressed on quality education and health awareness.

Varieties of cultural programmes were presented by the school students of Namet, Khrimu, and Kitpi to mark the occasion. Among others Govt officers school teachers, Panchayat members, Goan Burahs, and public attended the programme. DIPRO

Farmers Club Formation Awareness

ITANAGAR, July 13: The N.N. Charitable Society (NNCS) Sagalee has conducted a Farmers Club Formation Awareness Camp at Sagalee on July 12.

The aim of the programme was to provide basic knowledge on formation of farmers club to the needy people.

The officials from line departments, financial institutes, PR leaders and general public of Sagalee area attended the programme sponsored by NABARD Regional Office Itanagar. The representative from financial institutions deliberates lectures in details about various schemes available for the Farmers club and various SHGs.

The society also decided to organize such awareness campaign in all the circles within Sagalee comprising of Sagalee, Toru, Leporiang and Mengio circle.

PHQ conducted Safe Driving training

ITANAGAR, July 13: Road Safety Cell PHQ has organized a training programme on safe driving for drivers of government departments at PHQ, Itanagar today.

Speaking on the occasion, AIGP, PHQ Eba Lingu highlighted the importance of defensive driving and other safety measures.

Inspector KVG Pillai of Road Safety Cell along with road safety education team highlighted about road accidents and causalities in Arunachal Pradesh, traffic education and defensive driving technique through power point presentation.

While, Ct Take Sorang and L/Ct A Darang demonstrated hand signal.

In the interactive session, the drivers suggested for inclusion of road safety syllabus in school curriculum, alternative route or one-way traffic to reduce traffic congestion.

Later, publicity material was distributed to all the 51 drivers for awareness purposes who attended the programme.

IDEA conducts training prog on alternative livelihood for SHGs

Banderdewa, July 13: Itanagar Diocesan Empowerment Association (IDEA) conducted a training programme on Micro-finance and Alternative Livelihood development programme for the SHG leaders at Banderdewa today.

The training motivated the SHG leaders to develop alternative livelihoods, improve alternative employment opportunities and initiate small enterprises.

The SHGs were also provided new avenues to the diverse livestock-rearing and farming by sustainable livelihood systems based on the locally available resources.

Sr. Merin, the Dy. Director of IDEA inspired the SHGs on experiences and best practices in livelihood options to achieve sustainable development and empowerment of women’s self-help groups.

Sanjiv Tirkey, the Project Coordinator elaborated the key input on micro-finance and income generation. He also said that IDEA is venturing into wide range of alternative rural livelihood options to create employment opportunities and self-reliance.

The training has strengthened the SHGs to engage in innovative small scale enterprises and rural livelihood.

ITANAGAR, July 13: Abu Taling Welfare Society and All Lindum-Linko Youth Welfare Society is jointly organizing a socio-economic and education awareness campaign at Jage village and Magne village, Yangte Circle, Kurung Kumey District from July 14-17 next.

Training for newly recruited teachers begins

NAHARLAGUN, July 13: The 30-day Induction Level Training Programme under Central Sponsored Scheme for newly recruited teachers of Changlang district was inaugurated here at DIET, Changlang yesterday.

Total number of 40 trainees from different schools in the district are attending. Changlang DIET faculty S.K Dey, S Pradhan, V.K Karn, R.P Ojha, M Bora, C. Lowang, all lecturers are the resource persons of the training programme.

During the period, trainees will be provided with an over view of National Curriculum Framework-2005 with special emphasis on the recent pedagogical practices. They will be equipped with relevant approaches and methods of teaching different school subjects and will be made aware of activity based learning and experiential learning. The trainees will also be helped to develop skill of preparing TLMs in local situation and will be made acquainted with skills of evaluation.

L. Borang, incharge Deputy Commisioner, Changlang who was chief guest of the occasion while stressing the role of teachers’ in shaping the future of children exhorted them to perform their noble service with utmost sincerity and dedication. He hoped such trainings would help teachers to develop their skills with latest techniques and methods of teaching thereby helping them for the better future for the children.

Earlier, Principal DIET, Changlang Shri S.C Karmakar in his welcome speech termed the training as vital for the teachers and exhorted to be attentive and gain optimum benefit from the training. Arunachal pleads for PIB office at Itanagar

GUWAHATI, July 13: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has said her ministry will give special emphasis to north east regarding development of media in the region. Chairing the North East regional conference for media units of the ministry at the Administrative Staff College in Guwahati today, Soni said special attention needs to be given to the north east states including Sikkim in view their unique problems.

During the conference, the minister instructed the Director Generals (DGs) of AIR, Doordarshan, DAVP, Song and Drama Division, Directorate of Field Publicity and Press Information Bureau to streamline the media services in the north east by addressing the problems of manpower shortage and infrastructure upgradation. The conference was attended by Union MoS C M Jatua, ministers and parliamentary secretaries and delegations from the north east states and heads of the different media units among others.

DG (News) Mohan Chandak informed that a new regional news unit will start functioning in Pasighat AIR station during the 11th Plan. Informing that all the north east states have regional news units, he said digitalization of the news units will be completed soon.

Arunachal Pradesh IPR Director Leki Phuntso submitted a memorandum to Ambika Soni on behalf of the state government which the minister assured to materialize in principle. In the memorandum, Phuntso requested the minister to set up one PIB office in Itanagar and expedite the process for setting up of the state Soochana Bhawan which was pending in the DoNER Ministry. He also urged for starting a bulletin in Tutsa dialect, upgrade the studio of AIR Itanagar, provide full fledged satellite uplinking facility for DDK Itanagar. Phuntso further called for popularizing community radio and town broadcasting system in Arunachal Pradesh.

Chhoekhor Duechen

ITANAGAR: Itanagar Buddhist Cultural Society would celebrate Chhoekhor Duechen at Thupten Gatsaling Gonpa on July 15 next to commemorate the first teaching of Lord Budha.

“No parking of pvt vehicles”

ITANAGAR: The state transport Services in a notification has prohibited the parking of private vehicles inside the APSTS bus terminus, Naharlagun.

The STS authority said the step has been taken in order to avoid minor incidents that occurred earlier due to illegal parking of private vehicle inside the compound. It said the APSTS or its staff will not be responsible if any incident and damage causes to private vehicle inside the APSTS after the notification.

Total ban opposed

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Right to Information Bureau cum Centre for Good Governance and Research, East Kameng District Unit taking serious note on the ban of local wine in Seppa Township by District Magistrate suggested that instead of total ban on sale of the local wine, the district administration should make out an appropriate time schedule for selling of local wine in the market so that the local poor wine sellers also earn their livelihood.

Condolences

ITANAGAR, July 13: All Mubii-Radhe-Jarbo Uru Welfare Society (AMRJUWS) of Ziro and Itanagar has condoled the death of Late Habung Tabing who died at R K Mission Hospital, Itanagar due to illness on July 6 last.

Born on Aug 10, 1944 to Late Habung Jarjo of village Reru, Ziro, Tabing served as Anchal Samitii Member (ASM) of Tayang-Sukung Anchal constituency un-interruptedly from 1969 to 2003 for long period of 34 years. Besides, he served many other welfare organizations and worked towards the development of Apatani plateau. The Society also conveyed deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for departed soul.

The MIIT family also condoled the sad and untimely demise of Shiva Baidya, one of the senior most faculties of MIIT Itanagar branch.

Late Baidya, who hailed from Shilapathar in Assam, died at 30 and is survived by her parents besides six sisters and one brother.

All the staff and students of the institute stand by the bereaved family at this hour of grief and pray for eternal peace of the departed soul. The offices of MIIT will remain closed from July 13 to July 17 next.

Dree football

ITANAGAR, Jul 13: Sojang Lapang Sport Club won the Dree Football Tournament conducted by Central Dree Festival Committee, Ziro recently.

Tajang Village Development Committee, Ziro lauded the team for winning the prestigious tournament at a function organized on July 10 last.

Attending the function, EE PHE Liagi Miri, also vice chairman of CDFC, encouraged the players to maintain the same tempo and spirit in future too. He distributed prizes to the award winning players on the occasion.

Tajang Panchayat Anchal Chairperson Mihin Tayu also spoke on the occasion and lauded the players for winning the most coveted prize of the Dree festival.

Final match

ITANAGAR, Jul 13: The final match of the state level Tiger Seven football tournament would be played between Saba Sha X and TTFC, Doimukh at Nyokum Lapang Ground here tomorrow at 2.30 pm.

AAPSU president Takam Tatung and Itanagar Market Welfare Association vice president Pate Tajuk would attend the final day of the tournament as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
